Road to perdition
This project utilized a publicity billboard that appeared to look like a large highway route indicator; and was to be placed off the highway exit of the city of Reading. The billboard had the names of eight cities, and the distance in kilometers from each city to Reading, additionally; the year when each city had been bombed by American forces was added to the billboard. The text was written over a green background similar, to that often found in US highway signs. However, a “camouflage” effect was evoked by the slight variations in tone, creating a subtle reference to the militaristic overtone in the government’s public discourse with the American population. Placing this billboard on the side of the highway, suggested that the strong militaristic content in government discourse is associated to obscure, but very specific private economic interests.
